NVIDIA Unveils Earth-2 and cBottle Model for High-Resolution Climate Modeling

NVIDIA unveiled Earth-2 on June 10, 2025, a revolutionary cloud platform powered by generative artificial intelligence designed for creating interactive digital twins of the Earth and high-resolution climate modeling. As detailed on the company's official blog, a key component of this platform is a new AI foundation model named cBottle, which translates to "Climate in a Bottle." This technology enables climate and weather modeling at an unprecedentedly high resolution, down to the microscale, such as at the level of individual city districts or specific industrial sites. While traditional numerical weather prediction methods require massive and expensive supercomputing power and can only provide a general picture for large areas, the cBottle generative model can create simulations of local weather and climate phenomena orders of magnitude faster. This includes accurately predicting the paths and intensity of hurricanes and typhoons, simulating smoke plumes from wildfires, and modeling "urban heat island" effects and air quality with detail down to a few meters. The Earth-2 platform opens new horizons for climate scientists, meteorological services, governments, and businesses. It will allow for more accurate forecasting of extreme weather events to protect populations, better urban development planning, optimization of renewable energy sources (solar and wind farms), and assessment of long-term climate risks to critical infrastructure and agriculture. This launch demonstrates the power of generative AI in solving complex scientific challenges and is a significant step towards creating interactive and high-fidelity digital twins of our planet.
