Redmond, WA, USA, May 21, 2025 – At the opening of its annual Build 2025 developer conference, Microsoft Corporation today made several major announcements signaling a new phase in the evolution of personal computers deeply integrated with artificial intelligence technologies. The central announcement was the presentation of the "Copilot+ PC" category – a new class of Windows PCs designed to deliver unprecedented performance in AI tasks and provide innovative user experiences through the Copilot AI assistant.
These "Copilot+ PCs" will be equipped with the latest processors featuring powerful Neural Processing Units (NPUs) capable of performing over 40 trillion operations per second (TOPS). This allows AI models to run locally, ensuring high speed, improved privacy, and offline capabilities. Microsoft showcased several exclusive AI features for these PCs, including "Recall" (the ability to find anything the user has seen or done on their PC using natural language), "Live Captions" with real-time translation for any audio content, and enhanced AI-powered creative tools in applications like Paint and Photos. The company announced collaborations with leading PC manufacturers such as Dell, Lenovo, HP, Acer, ASUS, and Samsung, who will release their Copilot+ PC models based on Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus processors, with support for Intel and AMD chips expected in the future.
As part of this announcement, Microsoft also unveiled updated versions of its flagship devices – the Surface Laptop and Surface Pro. The new Surface Laptop 7th generation and Surface Pro 11th generation are among the first devices to receive Copilot+ PC status. They feature not only the new Snapdragon X Elite/Plus processors but also improved displays, extended battery life, and a refreshed design with thinner bezels. These devices are positioned as benchmarks for the new AI PC category, demonstrating the full benefits of tight hardware and software integration.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, speaking at the Build opening keynote, emphasized that the advent of Copilot+ PCs is a watershed moment, comparable to the introduction of the graphical user interface or connecting PCs to the internet. The company envisions a future where AI becomes an integral part of the operating system and daily user interaction with the computer, making it a truly personal and intelligent assistant. The first Copilot+ PC models are expected to go on sale as early as June of this year, promising significant changes in the personal computer market.
