Cassava Technologies and Zindi Join Forces for AI Revolution in Africa: GPU-as-a-Service and Continental Talent!

The African continent, with its rapidly growing population and dynamically developing digital economy, stands on the cusp of a new era of technological transformation, and artificial intelligence is poised to play a key role. On May 16, 2025, a landmark event capable of significantly accelerating AI innovation across Africa was announced: pan-African technology provider Cassava Technologies and Zindi, Africas largest professional network for data scientists (boasting over 85,000 "Zindians"), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The goal of this strategic Cassava and Zindi Partnership is to provide broad access to advanced AI solutions and GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) capabilities, creating fertile ground for solving the continents unique problems with locally developed technologies.

This collaboration combines the strengths of both organizations. Cassava Technologies, which launched its AI business in 2024 and announced ambitious plans to build Africas first "AI factory," provides powerful data center infrastructure and access to much-needed Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) for complex AI computations via its GPUaaS model. Zindi, in turn, brings its extensive ecosystem of talented African data scientists, AI developers, and a platform for hosting AI competitions that help identify and nurture promising talent and innovative projects.

Hardy Pemhiwa, President and Group CEO of Cassava Technologies, commented on the agreement: "Combining our data centres advanced GPU capabilities with Zindis innovative data science platform creates a powerful foundation for digital advancement." Celina Lee, CEO and Co-Founder of Zindi, expressed her enthusiasm: "Zindi is thrilled at the opportunity to partner with Cassava Technologies to strengthen African datasets, address local problems with locally developed solutions, and help more African AI builders access the resources they need to succeed."

Specific areas of collaboration include leveraging Cassavas GPUaaS infrastructure for AI model development on the Zindi platform, mutual platform integration to expand access to talent, data, and innovation, and the launch of specialized AI challenges aimed at discovering and supporting promising African AI projects and specialists. This partnership is not just a declaration of intent; it is a practical step towards creating a sustainable, scalable, and inclusive AI ecosystem in Africa. The importance of creating diverse datasets for AI fairness and objectivity is emphasized, which is particularly relevant for the diverse African context.

The synergy between Cassavas infrastructure capabilities and Zindis intellectual capital is expected to have a multiplier effect on AI development in key sectors of the African economy, such as agriculture, healthcare, finance, and education. According to UN estimates, AI could boost the GDP of sub-Saharan African countries by $1.5 trillion by 2030. The Cassava and Zindi Partnership is an important contribution to realizing this enormous potential, fostering digital transformation, creating new jobs, and promoting responsible AI innovation across the continent.
